Licensed Professional Counselor

EXPERIENCE

Hollis has a passion for counseling that is a gift to her clients and the practice. With dual certification as a Licensed Professional Counselor as well as a Certified School Counselor, she helps clients cope with current stressors and often communicates with the school administrators on their behalf on request.

Although she works with many adolescent girls with great success, she is especially skilled in working with adolescent boys who are experiencing anxiety, mood disorders, and depression among other things. She has a way of creating a non-judgmental and open line of communication that allows boys to feel safe to talk about things they otherwise wouldn't. She also helps parents navigate obstacles or concerns with their child and or their parent/child relationship.

Hollis has worked in a wide variety of sites and settings, including Lakewood Elementary, Heart House Dallas, and private practice. She has led psycho-educational groups and conducted individual sessions with adolescents and adults concerning anxiety, grief, trauma, depression, coping skills, and brain development. She also co-facilitated women’s groups, focusing on personal development and understanding through archetypal patterns.

Hollis graduated from Southern Methodist University with a Masters of Science in Counseling. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified School Counselor. She also earned a Masters of Education from the University of Houston and her Bachelors Degree in Education from Louisiana State University. Prior to pursuing her counseling degree, Hollis spent a decade in the Houston public school system as a teacher and reading specialist.

Hollis places heavy importance on developing a safe, supportive therapeutic relationship with her clients. She believes all individuals have the capacity for growth through identifying and understanding lifestyle patterns and motivations of behavior through the lens of Adlerian and Jungian theories.
